Martin "Marty" Cohen, 73, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2026.

Marty was born on August 13, 1952, to his late parents, Joel and Charlotte Cohen, and was raised on Long Island, New York. He graduated from Bethpage High School in 1969 and went on to earn a Mathematics degree from Hofstra University in 1973.

Marty enjoyed a distinguished and successful career as a health insurance actuary and consultant. He ultimately retired as Vice President and Chief Actuary, earning the respect, admiration, and trust of colleagues and clients throughout his many years in the industry.

Music was one of Marty's greatest passions. He was an accomplished musician and talented guitarist. He spent many years performing with his band, Buzz, entertaining audiences in clubs, bars, and events across Long Island. Whether playing music, relaxing with a Peroni beer, or enjoying a spirited game of dominoes, Marty embraced life with enthusiasm, humor, and a deep appreciation for friendship.

To those fortunate enough to know him, Marty was far more than his professional accomplishments. He was a vibrant, kind-hearted man with a quick wit and a seemingly endless supply of jokes. Though he never had children of his own, he became a father figure to many. One close family friend lovingly referred to him as her "Jewish dad" for more than 30 years—a title he cherished. In return, Marty affectionately called her "the daughter he never wanted," a running joke that perfectly captured the warmth and humor of their special bond.

Marty had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcome, valued, and cared for. His generosity, genuine spirit, and enduring friendships were a testament to the way he lived his life.

He is survived by his sister, Audrey; his nephew and niece, Andrew and Emily; his beloved grandnieces, Aubrey and Aliya and his longtime partner Karen.

Marty's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Marty's memory to the Alzheimer's Association and the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, two organizations
