Marguerite Constance Dougherty Thiemann passed away peacefully on Sept. 11, 2026, in Yorktown Heights, New York, at the age of 95, from natural causes.

Born on Feb. 16, 1931, in New York City, to the late Gertrude Dougherty and William “Ed” Dougherty, Marguerite was their beloved firstborn “Valentine baby.” She grew up being taught both Episcopalian and Catholic religious traditions, and as an adult, Marguerite chose to become a lifelong Catholic. Her life was richly shaped by her faith and her loving family.

Marguerite devoted herself to caring for others in both her personal and professional life. She graduated as a Registered Nurse from Kings County Medical School of Nursing, Queens, NY, in 1952, and began her nursing career in the hospital O.R. She later progressed to Head Nurse at Marr’s Nursing Home. After her children were grown, she became a Home Care Nurse for the District Nursing Association of Northern Westchester, and was one of the first Hospice nurses in the region. Her natural abilities in human kindness, clarity and compassion were a comfort to all her patients.

Marguerite fell in love with William [Bill] George Thiemann on October 31st, 1955, and they were married August 18, 1956. After embarking on their 6-month honeymoon in Europe, they started their family life in Queens, NY. Soon after, they built a home and settled in Mohegan Lake, NY, to raise their 6 children. Marguerite and Bill enjoyed a loving marriage for 60 years and lived a robust family life.

Those who knew Marguerite were touched by her warmth, her wisdom, her grace, patience, and easy-going humor. She was beloved by many - her parents and husband, six children and spouses, 15 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. Her home and her heart were places of welcome. She had a gift for making others feel valued and cared for. She chose to express her love through action, first and most importantly in helping out her growing family, and also within the community, (with Bill) as Founding Members of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton parish, serving in the Altar Rosary Society, performing outreach to the sick and homebound, organizing neighborhood babysitting networks, and volunteering at Scouts and the nursing home, to name a few. Also, she very much enjoyed the arts (particularly ballet, opera and music) and was a voracious reader.

She is survived by her children: Donald Thiemann, Mary (Ken) Streber, Elizabeth (Bob) Cicola, Michael (Carol McKenna) Thiemann, Susan (Joe) DiSisto and Beverly (Albert) Kontis. She also leaves behind 15 grandchildren: Dylan Thiemann, Christina Thiemann, Patrick Streber, Kevin Streber, Katherine (Michael) Goodwin, Emily Cicola, Molly (Bo) Scavone, Brian Cicola, Mark Cicola, John Cicola, Olivia Thiemann, Anika Thiemann, Josephine DiSisto, Michael DiSisto, and Lucy DiSisto. Marguerite is also survived by six great-grandchildren, loving nieces, and her sister-in-law, and other family members.

Marguerite was preceded in death by her parents, her cherished husband William Thiemann, and beloved brothers, William Dougherty and Peter Dougherty.

May those who loved her find comfort in the promise of eternal life and the knowledge that she is now at peace. Marguerite will have a Catholic Funeral Mass on October 10th at 10 AM at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 1377 East Main Street, Shrub Oak, NY 10588, with a private family burial immediately following.
