Manmohan “Mohan” Mehra, 82, died peacefully on Saturday, August 15, after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife, Suzanne Mehra, and son, Brian Mehra.

Mohan was born September 1, 1943, and grew up in India, where he attended Modern School and earned a scholarship to Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. This brought him to the United States, and he became a citizen in 1979. After earning a degree in engineering at Cornell, he worked briefly at IBM, then at General Foods in White Plains, where he worked in brand marketing and in food industry analysis and strategic planning.

He met his wife, Suzanne, who is from Switzerland, in New York City, and they were married at Riverside Church in 1972. Their son, Brian, was born in 1979. Mohan was a caring, dedicated husband and a loving father.

After retirement, Mohan became deeply involved with organizations dedicated to improving the lives of people with developmental disabilities. He served as President of the Board of The Arc of Westchester and later as President of the Board of The Arc of the United States. His drive, compassion, and effort in these roles were endless, as he wanted the best for all people with disabilities — including his son, Brian, who has Down syndrome.

Mohan will always be remembered for his endless drive and energy. He was always on the go. He loved watching baseball and, to his final days, watched the Mets hoping for a win, often visiting Citi Field with Brian to enjoy a game. He and Brian also shared a love of country music, and many car rides were spent singing along together. He loved traveling to Switzerland to see his wife’s family and take in the scenery, and he traveled frequently to India while his parents were alive. He loved the fall colors of the Northeast and enjoyed leisurely drives through the forests ablaze with color.
