A U.S. Postal Service delivery truck caught fire Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 21, on Varna Lane, prompting a response from the Mahopac Falls Volunteer Fire Department (MFVFD) and Carmel PD
Firefighters were dispatched at about 2 p.m. for a reported vehicle fire involving the mail truck. When crews arrived, they found the vehicle actively burning and stretched two hose lines to contain and extinguish the flames, fire officials said.
The fire was brought under control without any reported injuries.
During the incident, a small fuel spill entered a nearby storm drain, prompting notification of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, which assigned a spill number and coordinated follow-up actions.
Crews were able to quickly get the fire under control and prevent it from spreading.
“Thank you to our mutual aid partners for their quick response,” said Ellen Sacher, MFVFD public information officer. “And thank you to the residents for their patience while our crews operated on the scene.”
