Mahopac’s Leandro Oliveira spent winter break getting an inside look at the world’s biggest tech companies through Hofstra University’s Silicon Valley program.

Oliveira, an honor student in Hofstra’s Fred DeMatteis School of Engineering and Applied Science, joined fellow computer science and engineering students on a northern California tour designed to connect classroom learning with real-world careers.

The group met with engineers, project managers and senior leaders at Meta, Google, CrowdStrike, Apple, Oracle and Micron, and students heard firsthand how major tech teams approach innovation, collaboration and problem-solving at scale.

At Google’s ChromeOS Experience Center, students took part in hands-on activities, toured the facility and joined a panel discussion led by engineers and managers. The panel included Hofstra alumnus Sajed Sahni ’02, a solutions specialist manager (global) for Google and a member of the DeMatteis Dean’s Advisory Board.

Students later visited Meta’s Menlo Park campus for a guided tour and discussion led by Hofstra alumnus Doug Seich ’17, a product manager at Meta, who spoke about career paths from Hofstra to Silicon Valley and the importance of adaptability in the industry.

The itinerary also included CrowdStrike, where students learned about cybersecurity threats and the growing role of artificial intelligence.
