NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – A Mahopac man was killed Tuesday morning (May 27) when a tire on his motorcycle blew out causing the bike to crash.
New York State Police say that at approximately 7:43 a.m., troopers from the Highland barracks responded to reports of a motorcycle crash on the New York State Thruway (I-87) near exit 18 in the town of New Paltz, N.Y.
Police said the preliminary investigation revealed that a 2009 Harley-Davidson motorcycle was traveling northbound on I-87 near exit 18 when the rear tire blew out, causing the bike to turn sideways and roll in the left lane until it came to a stop. The rider, identified as Martin T. Muller,62, of Mahopac, was ejected and landed approximately 80 feet south of the motorcycle.
New Paltz Rescue EMS initiated life-saving measures on Muller at the scene. He was transported to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
