YORKTOWN, N.Y. — A 59-year-old Mahopac man who was arrested earlier this month for allegedly pointing a gun at another driver while using a racial slur during a traffic dispute on Route 6 in Yorktown is now facing an additional charge.

According to Yorktown Police, James Brown was arrested and processed on Tuesday (Feb. 25) for seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class A misdemeanor.

Police said Brown showed up to the department on Feb. 11 to turn in his firearms, following a previous court order. While officers were recording the firearms, police said they found a small plastic container holding then-unknown pills in one of the firearm cases.

An investigation found that those pills were a Schedule IV controlled substance — allegedly possessed by Brown.

Police said Brown was advised to return to the department, where he was processed for the added charge.

After processing, Brown was issued an appearance ticket and released on his own recognizance with a court appearance pending.
