September events at Mahopac Library include a new art exhibit by Russ Brandon opening Sept. 6, a trivia night for teens on Sept. 5, and a Medicare educational seminar on Sept. 27, with more programs scheduled throughout the month.

New art exhibit: Starts Saturday, Sept. 6 – La Musiquita Por Dentro (The Music Within), featuring acrylic paintings by artist Russ Brandon, will be on display in the Third Floor Gallery through Sept. 26. Through his lively and colorful artwork, Brandon shares the positive aspects of his Puerto Rican and American heritage, evoking good feelings, memories and relatability across cultural backgrounds. An artist’s reception will be held Saturday, Sept. 13, from noon to 1:30 p.m. The public is invited to meet the artist, view his extensive collection and enjoy refreshments. No registration required.

Preschool programs: Starts Monday, Sept. 29 – Early Literacy Preschool Programs begin a six-week session for ages birth to 5. Ext. 139.

Language Exchange: Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. – Weekly sessions where Spanish and English speakers practice each other’s languages. The first half hour will be English conversation, and the second half hour will be Spanish conversation. No registration necessary.

Trivia Night for Teens: Friday, Sept. 5 at 5 p.m. – Test your knowledge, make a team and win prizes. This month’s theme is “I Love the 90s.” Ext. 153.

Defensive Driving: Saturday, Sept. 6 at 9:30 a.m. – The Defensive Driving Insurance Reduction Program includes films and discussions about driving attitudes and behaviors. For licensed drivers and those with permits. Ext. 100.

The Erie Canal at 200: Monday, Sept. 8 at 6:30 p.m. – David Brooks from the Schoharie Crossing Historic Site outlines the history of the Erie Canal and its role in pop culture and folklore. Ext. 100.

Balloon Club: Tuesday, Sept. 9 at 6 p.m. – Teens can help with outreach events by learning to make balloon animals. No experience required. Ext. 153.

Udemy Demo: Monday, Sept. 15 at 6:30 p.m. or Wednesday, Sept. 17 at noon – Learn about Udemy, the library’s new resource for 25,000+ on-demand video courses. Ages 18 and older. Ext. 153.

Friday Film Night for Adults: Friday, Sept. 19 at 6 p.m. – Monthly curated screening of a classic, international or modern film. Ext. 100.

Fullmetal Arts & Crafts: Sunday, Sept. 21 at 2 p.m. – Anime, manga and video game fans can make their own keychains, bookmarks and button pins. Ext. 100.

3rd–5th Grade Book Club: Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 2 p.m. – Read and discuss How to Train Your Dragon by Cressida Cowell, then design and fly your own dragon in a themed craft. For grades 3–5. Ext. 139.

Peekskill Riots Part 4: A Long Ways From Home: Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 6 p.m. – Learn about the Paul Robeson concert attacks of 1949 and the national controversy that followed. Ext. 100.

Movie Screening: How to Train Your Dragon (2025 live action): Wednesday, Sept. 24 at 1 p.m. – Afternoon screening for grades K–5. No registration necessary.

Medicare Educational Seminar: Saturday, Sept. 27 at 10:30 a.m. – Learn about Medicare enrollment, plan changes and insurance options. Presented by John Bousquet from Medicare Resource Group. Ext. 100.

Jazz Concert: Sunday, Sept. 28 at 2 p.m. – Saxophonist Daniel Bennett performs an afternoon of jazz. Bennett has been featured in the Boston Globe, Miami Herald, Timeout New York and NPR. Ext. 100.

Book Buddies: Mondays starting Sept. 29 at 4:30 p.m. – Children in grades K–2 pair up with teen buddies (grades 6+) to read together, followed by games and activities. Ext. 139.
