On the night the Wolf Pac celebrated its five seniors, Mahopac controlled play from the start in an 85-58 victory over Peekskill last Wednesday night (Feb. 4) in the Wolf Den.
The Pac celebrated seniors Drew Lichtenberger, Matt Reilly, Dylan Bello, Mo Holmes, and RJ Grabeklis—and they all contributed.
Lichtenberger led the way with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Reilly had a big night with 17 points, nine rebounds, seven blocks and six assists, while Bello had six points to go with five rebounds, Holmes had three points and Grabeklis added two.
But they weren’t alone, thanks to the effort of a pair of juniors: Ethan Dedvukaj dropped 17 points, grabbed eight boards and dished out four assists and Justin Beberman delivered 13 points and three assists.
“Each of those seniors are high character, smart kids,” Pac coach Matt Calabro said. “Coaches hope for kids like those five when they’re taking over a program.”
With just two regular-season games to play, the Pac sits at 12-6 overall, and Calabro said he likes the way his team is performing as the postseason approaches.
“I feel good about where we are right now,” he said. “We’re playing a brand of basketball that can translate to the playoffs and I think we’re a tough matchup.
“If we can take care of the ball – value the ball, rebound, and get shots – I think we can win games,” he added. “We feel like we’re in a pretty good position to make a deep run, and we’re in a good place mentally. You can’t be afraid to fail, you have to envision yourself making big plays, coming through at tough times.”
Mahopac was set to host Tappan Zee Wednesday (Feb. 11) at 6:30 p.m. and travels to Panas Friday for a 5 p.m. tip. Playoffs begin Feb. 19.
