Building a Yorktown that honors our past and invests in our future

Posted

Dear Editor,

Yorktown is a town rooted in family, tradition and pride.

As we look toward the future, I believe there are gems we can give our community — investments that honor our history while building something even stronger for the next generation.

Imagine walking and biking safely along connected trails that link Sparkle Lake, Turkey Mountain and our neighborhoods. Picture a year-round recreation dome where kids and families can gather for sports, events and celebrations. Let’s plant native gardens that beautify our town while protecting the environment we love.

We can also create cultural spaces — an arts center to showcase music and theater, and a revitalized town square filled with local businesses, farmers’ markets and holiday festivals. Our teens deserve a stronger community center, our children need safer school routes and inclusive playgrounds, and our seniors deserve a wellness hub that supports healthy, active living.

These aren’t just dreams. They are real investments that will make Yorktown stronger, safer and more connected. Over the past four years, I have worked tirelessly on behalf of our residents to move projects forward, update outdated laws and make sure taxpayer dollars are spent wisely. Municipal law requires discipline and procedure, but I’ve never lost sight of the bigger picture: I am here for the people.

That is why I am asking for your trust once again. Re-electing me means Yorktown continues to have a representative who listens, who does the work and who fights every day to deliver for our families. My vision is not about politics — it is about people, progress and preserving the community we are proud to call home.

-Luciana Cortina Haughwout, Member & Candidate for re-election to Yorktown Town Board
