Leroy Vance Junker, born in 1939, in Pasadena, California, passed away on March 1, 2026, at the age of 86. He was the beloved son of Florence and Albert Junker. A gifted student with a lifelong passion for learning, he attended Stanford University, where he earned a degree in Electrical Engineering. He continued his studies at Stanford, completing a second degree in Mathematics and later achieving ABD status toward his doctoral work.

Leroy began his professional career at the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, D.C., where he contributed his talents as a computer programmer during a formative era in the field. In 1969, he joined IBM Research in Yorktown Heights, New York, where he continued his work as a highly respected and innovative programmer.

That same year, Leroy met his future wife, Camille, also a computer programmer. They married soon after and shared 55 loving years together. Leroy was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife as well as their two sons, Philip and Glenn, and three grandchildren, Vance, Callie, and Lucy.
