SOMERS, N.Y. - In December, Krav Maga New York (KMNY), in partnership with TAP Cancer Out, raised more than $3,000 for cancer research during Global Grappling Day at the KMNY academy in Somers. This annual fundraising event brings together grapplers from gyms around the world to honor and support individuals battling cancer.

During Global Grappling Day, participants roll for one hour straight in a symbolic tribute to the longer, more difficult fight faced by those with cancer—a struggle that can last months, years, or even a lifetime. Proceeds from the event benefit TAP Cancer Out and its partner organizations, which are dedicated to advancing cancer research and funding initiatives to combat the disease. In total, Global Grappling Day raised over $250,000 for TAP Cancer Out’s beneficiary organizations, including Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, American Brain Tumor Association, Camp Sunshine, and more.

KMNY specializes in Krav Maga, a self-defense system developed by Imi Lichtenfeld in the 1930s. While known for its powerful striking techniques, Krav Maga also incorporates grappling to address real-world confrontations, which often involve clinches, grabs, or ground fighting. Unlike traditional grappling arts such as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu or Judo, Krav Maga emphasizes quickly neutralizing threats and escaping danger rather than engaging in prolonged exchanges. Today, Krav Maga is taught worldwide to military units, police forces, and civilians seeking practical and effective self-defense skills.

Krav Maga New York in Somers offers self-defense instruction and fitness programs designed to empower individuals with practical self-defense skills. To learn more, visit www.kmny.us
