SOMERS, N.Y. - A scary moment for a local family had a happy ending thanks to the sharp senses of a canine law enforcement officer.
Just after 11:30 a.m. on Monday, June 16, multiple law enforcement agencies and EMS units were called to Tractor Supply on Route 6 in Somers after receiving reports of a missing 2-year-old child.
While authorities expanded their search area outside the store, Westchester County Police K9 handler Paul Osterman and his partner Essex began tracking procedures from the entrance to the building.
Essex brought Officer Osterman back into the store, where the missing girl was located between two merchandise displays. She had apparently remained there undetected because the color of her shirt matched the nearby packaging.
The wayward youngster was reportedly surprised to see Essex before being reunited with her relieved parents.
