CROSS RIVER, N.Y. - John Jay High School’s robotics Team MOB made history on May 2 by finishing 18th in the world at the FIRST Robotics World Championship in Houston. Competing against the top 300 teams out of more than 8,500 worldwide, Team MOB ranked 12th in its division - the highest finish of any New York State team - before forming an alliance with two other U.S. teams to capture the division championship. The accomplishment made Team MOB the first New York team ever to compete in the prestigious Davinci Finals, ultimately finishing among the top 18 robotics teams in the world.

The achievement was the result of months of dedication and teamwork, with students spending long nights at school, working through snow days and vacations to refine their robot, strategy and programming. Along the way, students developed skills far beyond engineering, including project management, manufacturing coordination, communications, social media outreach and collaboration with teams from around the globe. John Jay competed alongside teams from countries including China, Brazil, Romania, South Korea and South Africa in one of the world’s most competitive youth robotics events.
