Jackson Iriarte was recognized by the Yorktown Town Board after earning the rank of Eagle Scout, Scouting’s highest rank, on Aug. 6.
Iriarte began his Scouting career as a Cub Scout before joining Boy Scout Troop 238 in fifth grade. During his time in Scouting, he earned 36 merit badges and served as the troop historian. He also helped organize and host troop fundraisers and events and participated in color guard ceremonies at community events.
His service has included volunteering in the Veterans Day Parade and placing flags on veterans’ graves for Memorial Day. Outside of Scouting, Iriarte is a member of the Mohegan EMS Youth Corps.
For his Eagle Scout service project, Iriarte led volunteers in rehabilitating the Hollow Brook Trail in Cortlandt Manor. The project included clearing and raking the trail, improving the entrance, replacing and adding trail markers, cleaning a vandalized sign and building a bench at the trail entrance.
Iriarte also participates in bowling and basketball and enjoys tennis and bicycling. He was inducted into the National Junior Honor Society in June and attends Walter Panas High School on an honors track.
The Town Board proclaimed Oct. 8 as Jackson Iriarte Day in the Town of Yorktown, recognizing his achievement, leadership and commitment to community service.
