The Italian American Club of Mahopac has awarded three Mahopac High School seniors with $500 scholarships.
At its June and July general membership meetings, the club presented checks to the three students. Besides the scholarships, the students also received certificates of recognition for their demonstrated academic achievement, extracurricular activities and contributions to both school and the greater community.
The three scholarship recipients are Cade Zeolla, who will be attending the University of Pennsylvania and plans to major in economics/finance; Ryan Schluter, who will be attending the University of Tennessee and major in business; and Isabella Hitchcock, who will be attending Stony Brook University and major in marine biology.
The scholarship winners and their families were invited to have dinner with the club membership and were introduced by Scholarship Committee Chairperson Linda Cefaloni and IAC President Giulio Cefaloni. Each scholarship recipient read an essay on “How the Italian Language and Culture Have Affected My Life,” which was also part of the application criteria.
“Individuals like these students fill us with pride and hope for a brighter future,” said Giulio Cefaloni. “We wish them the best in their educational pursuits and challenge them to continue to study the Italian culture and language and learn more about the contributions Italians have made to civilization in the arts, government, science and in the founding of our nation.”
Cefaloni encouraged the students to stay engaged in both their schools and communities at large.
