On Memorial Day, rain canceled many parades and forced ceremonies indoors, but Yorktowners did not let the weather stop them from honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the country.
Military veterans, local elected officials, first responders, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and civilians first gathered at the Vietnam Memorial at Lakeland High School, followed by an observance at the World War II Memorial at John C. Hart Library and a ceremony at The Veteran Memorials Circle, where the Korean War Monument was rededicated. The program included a brief ceremony and a rendition of “Taps,” followed by the Memorial Day Parade, which moved from Town Hall to Veterans Road near the VFW and American Legion posts.
