North Salem's Hammond Museum announces slate of winter programs

NORTH SALEM, N.Y. - The Hammond Museum and Japanese Stroll Garden in North Salem has announced an exciting slate of upcoming programs for children and teens, as well as an information session for anyone interested in volunteering.

Teen Kawaii Budgie Bird Workshop

Monday, Feb. 16, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Ages 13 and up. With instructor Carlise Azmitia. Explore the playful world of kawaii (cute!) design while learning needle felting techniques. In this hands-on workshop, teens will be guided step by step through the process of creating an adorable, cartoon-inspired felt animal sculpture.  All safe and user-friendly materials are supplied. Celebrate School Break: African Safari–Land of Giants

Wednesday, Feb. 18, from 1 to 4 p.m.

For ages 6 and up. Come to the Hammond Museum during your Winter Recess and embark on an exciting African Safari led by Chris Evers of Animal Embassy! Join in for a live animal adventure and meet animals from Africa, the Land of Giants. Naturalist and guide Chris Evers will introduce everyone to live African Dwarf Hedgehogs, an African Bull Frog, a Dumeril’s Boa Constrictor, an African Crested Porcupine, and more. After our journey, we will refresh ourselves with a tasty snack, make a craft project, and settle in for some wonderful stories. On the Wheel for Teens

Friday, Feb. 20, from 1 to 4 p.m.

For ages 12 to 16. With instructor Liz Stine. This hands-on workshop introduces teens to the exciting process of wheel throwing in clay. With guided instruction and plenty of individual attention, teens will build both technical skills and confidence while exploring their own creative style. All materials, tools, and firings are included. Celebrate School Break: Spring Fling!

Tuesday, March 31, from 1 to 4 p.m.

Come to the Hammond Museum during your Spring Recess to have fun and learn some new things, and together with Chris Evers of Animal Embassy, look for and welcome the lively signs of Spring! Meet up-close some of our furry and feathered friends, including a Flemish Giant Rabbit, Prairie Dogs, Barred Rock Chicken, Homing Pigeon, and more. Back in the museum, everyone will warm up with a tasty snack and then get ready for the awakening of plants in spring by making “Pollinator Pots” and wrap up this great afternoon with some terrific stories. Spaces are limited. Learn more HERE.
