YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y.—Guiding Eyes for the Blind is breaking ground on a new 30,000-square-foot wellness and training center.

Located at 2501 Mohansic Ave., the facility will expand the organization’s ability to train guide dogs and serve more students with vision loss. According to the town, a top priority for the center is ensuring the health and well-being of the dogs while creating an improved work environment for staff and volunteers.

A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for Thursday (May 29) at noon.

Guiding Eyes has called Yorktown home for more than 60 years. Its headquarters and training school on Granite Springs Road have long been a staple in the community. In 2021, the organization opened the Guiding Eyes Outreach Center on Commerce Street, offering a public-facing space for community engagement, training demonstrations, and volunteer recruitment.

Services—including guide dog training and placement—are provided at no cost to individuals who are blind or visually impaired. On its website, the nonprofit organization said it is “passionate about connecting exceptional dogs with individuals for greater independence.”
