Giglio Feast returns to Mahopac

Posted

The Giglio Feast returns to Mahopac from Thursday, Aug. 27, through Sunday, Aug. 30, bringing four days of Italian heritage, faith, food, music and family entertainment to St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church while supporting the Children’s Cancer Society of America.

The feast, which includes food, carnival rides, and music continues a tradition that traces its roots from Nola, Italy, to East Harlem and the Bronx before arriving in Mahopac. The highlight of the weekend is the lifting of the Giglio, a towering ceremonial structure carried in devotion to St. Paolino of Nola. The weekend concludes Sunday with an 11:30 a.m. Mass, followed by dancing with the Giglio and the Giglio Band.
