NORTH SALEM, N.Y. - As the season winds to a close, a trio of Tigers were sprinting to the finish.

Junior Freyja Smith would claim the Section 1 Class C Championship in javelin on Wednesday, June 3, at Hendrick Hudson High School with a toss of 97'8".

On the first day of state qualifiers at Arlington High School, freshman Shannon Moravick placed 29th in the 3000M. Teammate Kathryn Dupree placed 10th in the 200M and 6th in the 400M the following day to close out an outstanding season.

"It's quite an accomplishment to make state qualifiers, so Shannon and Kathryn should be proud of the seasons they had and how they celebrated with their last races of the season," said Coach Chris Gould.

Smith would keep her historic season rolling on June 5 on the second day of state qualifiers at Suffern Middle School, capturing the Section 1 Class C discus championship with a throw of 103’ 11”. The performance earned her a trip to the state meet and made her the first female student-athlete from North Salem to qualify in the event in 25 years.

"Freyja is an amazing athlete and person," said Coach Gould. "I am lucky and honored to coach such a talented student-athlete."

Smith competed at the state meet at Webster Schroeder High School on Saturday, June 13, finishing 9th in Class C.
