MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. - Former Mount Kisco police chief Joseph Spinelli was recently honored for his 35 years of law enforcement service.

Sgt. Spinelli, who retired in February, began his career with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department. He transferred to the Mount Kisco Police Department where he eventually became its chief.

He was credited with playing a “critical role” in ensuring a “smooth transition” when the MKPD merged with the Westchester County Police Department in 2015, a WCPD spokesperson said.

Spinelli held a number of positions with the WCPD, serving mostly as the commanding officer of its Communications Unit and as the head of its Crisis Negotiation Team.

“We are grateful for his service to the people of Westchester, Mount Kisco, and Putnam, and we wish him a long, happy, and healthy retirement,” the WCPD said.
