MAHOPAC, N.Y. - County Sheriff investigators have arrested a former Mahopac resident for allegedly issuing a bad check and not repaying a loan to a local Mahopac business, which led to a felony charge.
Investigators said that the business owner contacted them in January to report that he had made numerous attempts to collect more than $8,600 for services rendered and an additional $5,000 for a personal loan that he had made to the suspect. In March, when he had still not repaid his debt to the victim, investigators obtained an arrest warrant for the suspect who was believed to be living in New Jersey and Florida. On April 23, the Sheriff’s Office was notified that the suspect, Michael B. Salzman, 49, of Montvale, NJ, was arrested in Bergen County N.J. on a Sheriff’s Office warrant and was brought back to Putnam County. Salzman was charged with third-degree grand larceny, a class D felony, and issuing a bad check, a class B misdemeanor.
Saltzman was arraigned before Judge Anthony Mole in Putnam County Court and released with the stipulation that he check in weekly with Putnam County Probation.
