With broken hearts and profound sadness, we announce the passing of Florida Hoxha (Ho-Jah), Esq. who tragically passed away on Sept. 25, 2026, in Athens, Greece, at the age of 34. Florida's life was taken far too soon alongside her beloved husband, Ian; her cherished brother, Florin; her beloved sister-in-law, Eris; and her unborn niece, Bora. All looked forward to building a future together filled with love, dreams, and promise. Their loss is an unimaginable tragedy that has left family, friends, colleagues, and communities around the world grieving a sorrow beyond words.
She was extremely proud to have been born in Tropoje (TRO-poy-uh), Albania and raised in the Bronx, New York – her heritage and world view shaped her mission to live a life rooted in service. Whether caring for family, supporting friends, mentoring colleagues, advocating for her clients, or strengthening her community, she devoted herself to helping others. She was never too busy for someone in need.
As a public interest attorney, Florida brought skill, determination, and humanity to her work. There are many examples of Florida's unwavering commitment to standing up for those who needed a voice and a champion. She never forgot that behind every case was a person whose life, home, family, and future was at stake. Her commitment to service extended far beyond her legal practice. Florida dedicated herself to several causes as a board member, mentor, and friend. She was a natural connector who could bring people together across backgrounds and experiences. Guided by optimism and generosity, she strengthened the organizations she was a part of and enriched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to work alongside her.
What made Florida truly extraordinary was the consistency of her character. Whether she was speaking with a friend, a client, a judge, or a Prime Minister, she treated everyone with the same attentiveness and respect. Yet for all her accomplishments, the center of Florida's life was always the people she loved. She was a devoted daughter, a proud sister, a caring cousin, a loving wife, and a loyal friend. She had a remarkable ability to make others feel seen, valued, and supported.
The grief caused by the loss of these five lives stretches far beyond their family. Their lives remind us that a single family can leave an extraordinary mark through the kindness, love, and goodness they bring into the lives of others.
Though our hearts are broken, we will carry Florida with us always: in the stories we tell, in the lessons she taught us, in the lives she changed, and in the love she gave so freely. Florida, you are and will forever be deeply loved by us. Your light reached farther than you could ever have imagined. May your beautiful soul, together with Ian, Florin, Eris, and baby Bora, rest in eternal peace.
