MAHOPAC, N.Y. —Mahopac Middle School students have a new outdoor learning space, thanks to the work and ingenuity of a future Eagle Scout.
On Aug. 16, Cooper Grimm, with help from fellow Scouts in Troop 1 Mahopac, completed and installed his Eagle Scout Service Project at Mahopac Middle School. The project, proposed by science teacher Margaret Fox, created an outdoor teaching space to give students and staff an alternative setting for instruction and learning.
The finished area includes movable platforms and seating for at least 32 students, allowing a flexible setup suitable for any subject.
Grimm will be the fourth Eagle Scout in his immediate family, following his brothers Davis, Jackson and Samuel, who each completed projects serving the Mahopac community. Together, the four brothers have contributed more than 1,400 hours of volunteer service through their Eagle Scout Service Projects. Their father, Darrin Grimm, former Scoutmaster of Troop 1 Mahopac, is one of three Eagle Scouts in his own family.
