BREWSTER, N.Y. - Firefighters from the Croton Falls Fire Department and members of the North Salem Volunteer Ambulance Corps were among the agencies that responded to a structure fire at a multi-occupancy residence in the Town of Southeast on Tuesday evening.
The fire was reported at approximately 7:19 p.m. on June 9 at a dwelling on Sodom Road. Due to the nature of the call and multiple reports to 911, mutual aid resources were requested immediately.
While the Brewster Fire Department led the response, Croton Falls firefighters were dispatched to assist alongside crews from Carmel and Putnam Lake. First-arriving law enforcement officers began evacuating residents and removing animals from the building before fire apparatus arrived.
A Carmel Fire Department engine, already clearing a previous alarm, responded directly to the scene and was first to arrive, initiating fire suppression efforts. Brewster firefighters followed moments later and continued the fire attack and overhaul operations.
Mutual aid companies, including Croton Falls, provided critical manpower and support as firefighters worked to contain the blaze. Thanks to the coordinated efforts of all responding agencies, the fire was quickly brought under control and confined to the room where it originated, preventing further extension throughout the structure.
The North Salem Volunteer Ambulance Corps was among the emergency medical services agencies standing by during the incident, ensuring medical support was available for residents and first responders.
No injuries were reported among residents, firefighters, emergency personnel, or animals.
The American Red Cross was contacted to assist displaced residents with temporary housing and other support services.
In addition to Brewster, Carmel, Croton Falls, Putnam Lake, and North Salem Volunteer Ambulance Corps, agencies assisting at the scene included Putnam County Battalion 13, the New York State Police, Putnam County Sheriff's Office, Putnam County SPCA, and the Putnam County Fire Investigation Team.
