Councilwoman Daniels: Moral clarity cuts both ways

Posted

Dear Editor,

This letter is a response to Katherine Daniels’ letter to the editor from the last paper ("Not welcome: North Salem Town Board member joins calls to remove federal agents," Feb. 5, Page 14).

Why are you so divisive? After all, President Obama was doing deportations and his administration gave Tom Homan the 2015 Presidential Rank Award for Distinguished Service. This award was given for exceptional leadership and achievements in immigration enforcement. Where was your “moral clarity” then? Furthermore, where is your compassion for Americans that have been killed at the hands of illegal immigrants? Below I mentioned a few, but unfortunately, the list continues to grow.

  • Megan Bos found decapitated, killed by an illegal immigrant

  • Raquel Lorena Sarabia Barajas, killed by a drunk here illegally.

  • Maria Pleitez and Dayanara, her daughter, age 11, both killed in a car crash caused by a man here illegally.

  • Jocelyn Nungaray, 12 years old, was strangled by two men here illegally.

  • Rachael Morin, raped and murdered by an illegal immigrant.

  • Laken Riley, age 22, attacked and killed by a man in the U.S. illegally.

  • Larisha Sharell Thompson, killed by six illegal immigrants.

  • Dacara Thompson, murdered; an illegal immigrant is charged with her death.

These American citizens were innocent victims and could well be alive today if their lives had not been ended by illegal immigrants; yet, your loyalty is with the illegals. I really cannot understand how you think this is helping our country. I believe the majority of Americans welcome immigrants; but, they must come here the right way and not engage in illegal activity or be given tax payer money and benefits that they did not earn.

-Patricia Hughes, North Salem
