LAKE GEORGE, N.Y. - An upstate motorcycle accident has left one man dead and conflicting reports regarding the arrest of his brother, a Westchester County police officer.
Just after 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 31, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office responded to a motorcycle accident on State Route 9 in the area of The Nordick Inn in the Town of Lake George.
The Sheriff’s office, along with first responders, arrived at the scene and rendered aid to the operator of the motorcycle. Brian Kilduff, 31, of Brewster, had suffered severe injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The press release from the Warren County Sheriff’s Office further stated that Brian Kilduff's brother, Michael Kilduff, 33, was riding in the same group as the victim and was determined to be operating his motorcycle while intoxicated. It further stated that Kilduff refused a chemical test at the scene and was arrested and later released.
Kilduff is a Westchester County police officer, and was posted to a position as the school resource officer at North Salem’s Pequenakonck Elementary School in March.
On Tuesday, June 2, the North Salem Central School District issued a communication informing parents that Kilduff is no longer assigned to the district.
Conflicting Reports Emerge
On Monday, June 1, the Westchester County Police PBA issued a media advisory to “correct inaccurate reports and set the record straight regarding the Lake George incident.”
A PBA representative further stated that “contrary to reports that have circulated, Michael was not involved in the motorcycle accident. He was not riding with the group and was not present when the crash occurred. He responded to the scene only after receiving a call that his brother had been involved in a serious accident.”
Later that afternoon, the Westchester County PBA issued the following statement:
“Currently, we are here to support Officer Mike Kilduff and his family as they grieve the tragic loss of his brother. The family respectfully requests privacy during this difficult time. We trust that the investigation will be fair and thorough. The Westchester County PBA stands behind our members, and we will continue to provide support and resources to Officer Kilduff and his family who are dealing with an unimaginable loss. We ask that people allow the investigation to proceed and refrain from drawing conclusions before all the facts are known.”
