SOMERS, N.Y. - The Somers Lions Club officially launched its 60th year of service on Wednesday, July 15, with a kickoff event at Bistro on the Green. Members and guests gathered to honor six decades of service and celebrate the club's enduring commitment to the Somers community.
Chartered in 1966, the Somers Lions Club has proudly lived by the Lions Clubs International motto, "We Serve." For six decades, members have volunteered countless hours to improve the quality of life in Somers through community service, fundraising, scholarships, and support for local families, veterans, seniors, and nonprofit organizations.
The club also champions the global causes of Lions Clubs International, including vision initiatives, diabetes awareness, childhood cancer, hunger relief, and environmental sustainability, while remaining focused on the unique needs of the Somers community.
Over the years, the Somers Lions have become known for hosting events that bring the community together while supporting charitable causes. From the annual Independence Day barbecue, Lions Carnival, Joe Wynne Track Meet, and holiday projects to charity raffles and other fundraisers, every event helps support programs and assistance that directly benefit Somers residents.
The anniversary kickoff marks the beginning of a yearlong celebration recognizing the members, volunteers, sponsors, and community partners whose dedication has helped shape the club's legacy.
"Our 60th anniversary is a celebration of everyone who has supported our mission over the years," said club leadership. "We're proud of what we've accomplished together and look forward to continuing our tradition of service for many years to come."
The Somers Lions Club welcomes new members interested in making a positive impact in the community. Whether you can volunteer occasionally or become actively involved in the club's projects and events, there is a place for anyone with a desire to serve.
