‘Chat with Matt’ is more than a slogan

Dear Editor,

One of the things I appreciate most about Assemblyman Matt Slater is something that seems increasingly rare in politics: he actually wants to hear from the people he represents.

Matt has held “Chat with Matt” community discussions where residents can show up, ask questions and tell him what they think. You see him everywhere! He comes to community events, local businesses, visits schools and neighborhood gatherings to hear concerns. And when you email his office, don't be surprised if the response comes directly from Matt himself.

But accessibility only matters if someone actually listens.

Matt encourages people to give him honest feedback, even when they disagree with him, because he understands that representing us effectively in Albany requires knowing what people here are actually focused on.

And the results speak for themselves.

Whether it is fighting skyrocketing utility bills, securing investments in our roads and infrastructure, supporting our schools, helping residents navigate state agencies or simply solving an individual constituent's problem, Matt has shown that listening leads to results.

You don't have to agree with an elected official on every issue. I certainly don't expect to. What I do expect is someone who is willing to listen, explain where they stand and remember who they work for.

Matt Slater does that.

In an era when government can feel increasingly distant from the people it serves, we are fortunate to have an Assemblyman who remains accessible, visible and accountable to the communities he represents.
