Mahopac gymnasts Castrataro and Carinci qualify for sectionals

Mahopac’s Lexie Castrataro (fifth in the all-around, 34.15) and Anna Carinci (seventh all-around, 33.05) qualified for sectionals at the Division I championship at Eclipse Gymnastics in Mahopac on Monday.

The Wolf Pac gymnasts delivered against tough competition from Clarkstown and Wappingers—dominated by Clarkstown’s Khloe Henshaw (all-around), with Castrataro especially strong on the balance beam, where she placed fourth with a 9.2, and Carinci shining on the floor exercise (sixth, 9.15). Mahopac finished third as a team against the two powerhouses.

“A very competitive Division I Championship this evening,” coach Vin Collins said. “We came up short in the team competition but Anna and Lexie both qualified for the all-around competition at the Section 1 Championship.

“I’ve been saying this the whole season,” Collins added. “I am very proud of this team. We have battled through injuries and illness and we never gave up. I am so proud of each and every one of our gymnasts!”
