SOMERS, N.Y. - With shovels in their hands and big smiles on their faces, folks from the Somers Education Foundation broke ground for a brand-new playground for Universal Pre-K students at Primrose Elementary School.
Also in attendance at the cheerful ceremony last Friday were Universal Pre-K program representatives, the school board president, the schools superintendent, district administrators, Primrose’s principal and assistant principal, the town supervisor, two county legislators, and others.
With the project underway, the SEF has reached a remarkable milestone -- the awarding of more than $2 million in grants and scholarships since its founding in 1994.
The organization raises money through donations and events.
Its next fundraiser is a trivia night, to be held on Tuesday, Oct. 14, at The Burger Barn in Somers.
Folks can also help support the SEF’s latest project by purchasing personalized bricks for $100 apiece. They will be installed at the playground.
Donations can be made here.
