Yorktown drivers are being reminded of safety rules around school buses as the new school year begins.
In the first issue of this school year’s YCSD weekly newsletter, the Yorktown Central School District said all district buses are now equipped with fully operational stop-arm cameras. The goal, the district said, is student safety.
If a school bus has its red lights flashing and its stop arm extended, drivers are required to stop. Tickets are issued by the Westchester County Police Department. The district said it has no role in the enforcement process.
Also in its weekly newsletter, the district reminded families that left turns out of the C lot onto Route 202 are prohibited by law and pose a safety hazard to students.
