Building and Realty Institute discusses Westchester housing shortage

Posted

Westchester County needs about 16,000 additional affordable housing units, according to Tim Foley, CEO of the Building & Realty Institute of the Hudson Valley, who spoke to the Yorktown Town Board on Oct. 20.

Foley discussed potential solutions, including zoning changes and accessory dwelling units, to expand housing options for seniors, young families and middle-income residents. He also addressed concerns about school enrollment, saying research in comparable communities has not shown significant increases in student enrollment following multifamily housing development.

Members of Yorktown’s Community Housing Board were also present for the discussion, which appeared to generate interest among board members and attendees, with further conversations likely to follow.
