Brooklyn man arrested in connection with $30,000 fraud scheme in Yorktown

YORKTOWN, N.Y. — A Brooklyn man is facing felony charges after allegedly scamming a local resident out of $30,000 in a cash handoff.

Yorktown police said 27-year-old Mykyta Lebedyev was arrested on April 11, after the victim, suspecting fraud, reported the incident. Officers arranged a controlled meeting, during which Lebedyev allegedly accepted the money. He was then stopped and arrested at the scene.

Lebedyev was charged with third-degree grand larceny and third-degree criminal possession of stolen property, both class D felonies.

Following arrest processing, he was arraigned and released on his own recognizance. He is due back in Yorktown Justice Court on May 13 at 6 p.m.

Peekskill man charged in Dick’s Sporting Goods theft

A 24-year-old Peekskill man is facing a misdemeanor charge after allegedly shoplifting from Dick’s Sporting Goods.

Officers responded to the store on April 12 for a reported larceny in progress. The suspect, identified by police as Vincent Soliz, was found shortly after at 621 Bank Road (the address of a CubeSmart Self Storage facility) in possession of the stolen merchandise.

An investigation found that Soliz allegedly stole a black pair of Nike shorts valued at $65. Police said he passed all points of sale without attempting to pay for the item. He was arrested and transported to YPD for processing.

Soliz was charged with petit larceny, a class A misdemeanor.

After processing, he was issued an appearance ticket and released on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to appear in Yorktown Justice Court on Tuesday, April 29, at 6 p.m.

Yorktown woman faces felony charge after domestic altercation

A 45-year-old Yorktown woman voluntarily surrendered to the Yorktown Police Department on April 12, following a domestic dispute the previous evening.

YPD said officers responded to the scene on April 11 for a report of a domestic incident, but the victim had already left. The victim later met with officers at the station and reported that the woman allegedly threw a chair, causing injury.

The woman turned herself in the following day and was arrested and processed. She was arraigned in Yorktown Justice Court, where a temporary order of protection was issued for the victim. She was charged with second-degree assault, a class D felony.

She was released on her own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in court on April 22 at 6 p.m.

Her name and address have been withheld by Halston Media.
