Brett Wieland and Jean Hopper are the obvious choices

Dear Editor,

Raising a family has its challenges in the best of times and circumstances, but if we also have to worry about a crumbling town infrastructure – water, roads, parks – along with rising taxes, that adds stress to what is already a tough job.

I believe that Brett Wieland, candidate for the Carmel Town Board, can help relieve some of that stress by bringing experience, competence, energy and enlightened approaches to the Board. The current Board has had years, if not decades, to complete major projects that continue to languish. It’s time we have some new talent like Brett, who knows how to cut through government red tape and get the job done, and not waste taxpayer dollars by delaying the completion of urgent projects.

Brett considers himself a public servant rather than a politician; there is a difference. His track record is full of successful completions of projects and he will work with anyone in good faith and common sense to achieve wins for his fellow taxpayers. Brett will bring this know-how to the Carmel Town Board to take some of our worries away, and we can all make sure that he does by voting for him on Nov. 4.

I am also hopeful that Jean Hopper will become Carmel’s next Town Supervisor. There are many issues that face those of us who live and pay taxes in Carmel, including the continuing threat of water availability and quality, stagnating projects like Swan Cove, apparent neglect of our roads and parks, the need for a community center and good public transportation, and our ever-increasing high taxes.

I would hope that we do not fall into the rut of voting for the same candidates or those with the same
mindset every election and getting no better results. That is the reason I believe strongly that new leadership, independent thinking and fresh approaches are  desperately needed to make Carmel a better place to live and work.

After following Jean and her vision for Carmel, she has my vote for Carmel Town Supervisor! Her deep knowledge of Carmel and her ability to analyze problems and come  up with creative and commonsense solutions, combined with her deep roots in Carmel and background in  management, in my opinion make Jean Hopper hands down the obvious choice for Carmel Town Supervisor.
