Lakeland names Braren and Murphy to district leadership posts

Two administrators have been named to Lakeland Central School District leadership posts effective July 1.

The district has appointed Megan Braren as assistant superintendent for pupil personnel services and Kathleen Murphy as director of curriculum for secondary education, Superintendent of Schools Karen Gagliardi shared in a district update on May 29.

Braren brings more than 25 years of experience in education, including roles as a special education teacher, coordinator and director. She will oversee programs and services supporting students’ academic, behavioral, social and emotional needs. She holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Marist University, along with certifications in special education and elementary education, a Master of Professional Studies in Humanistic and Multicultural Education, and a Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Leadership from SUNY New Paltz.

Gagliardi said Braren will oversee programs and services designed to support the academic, behavioral, social and emotional needs of students across the district.

“Every student deserves to feel valued, supported, and connected within their school community,”Braren said in the message. “I remain deeply committed to creating opportunities that help students grow academically, socially, and emotionally while supporting educators in their professional growth. I believe strong relationships and collaborative systems are the foundation of successful schools, and I am excited and grateful for the opportunity to join the Lakeland Central School District community in this role.”

Murphy spent 20 years in the North Salem Central School District as a science teacher, department chair and assistant principal. She will oversee secondary curriculum development and instructional programs. She holds a doctorate in instructional leadership, a master’s degree in instructional technology and a bachelor’s degree in secondary education: Earth science. Murphy is a New York State Master Teacher.
