The Bedford Central School District Board of Education is seeking community members to serve on three advisory groups during the 2026-27 school year.
Openings are available on the Dual Language Bilingual Education Advisory Team, Budget Advisory Committee and Advocacy Advisory Committee. The board is seeking representation from across the district, including its elementary, middle and high school communities.
Relevant professional experience is welcomed but not required. Applications are due Sept. 30.
The Dual Language Bilingual Education Advisory Team will provide community feedback as the district responds to recommendations from a comprehensive review of its DLBE program.
Its initial work will include reestablishing the program’s mission and vision and advising the administration on areas that need to be developed, clarified or communicated.
The team will:
Support the thoughtful and timely implementation of the review’s recommendations.
Gather and synthesize information from research and the broader DLBE community.
Share information, ideas and feedback between stakeholders and the district administration.
Members will serve in an advisory capacity and are asked to make a two-year commitment.
The team is expected to include approximately 13 to 16 members:
The superintendent
The assistant superintendent
The ESOL director
The Mount Kisco Elementary School principal
Six to eight parents and faculty members representing different language backgrounds and experiences with DLBE
Three Board of Education members
Applicants should have an interest in the success of the DLBE program. The district is seeking participants from both English- and Spanish-speaking households, particularly collaborative thinkers who can consider different perspectives and work respectfully toward consensus.
The team expects to hold six 90-minute meetings at 6 p.m.:

Some meetings may be held virtually. All participants will be expected to attend in the designated format.

The Budget Advisory Committee advises the Board of Education and its Finance Subcommittee on important fiscal matters, including:
District revenues and expenditures
Long-range financial and capital planning
Reserve planning and management
Comparisons of fiscal and district performance measures
Other budget-related matters assigned by the board
The committee expects to meet four or five times during the school year.

The Advocacy Advisory Committee helps the board evaluate proposed and existing legislation and communicate the district’s needs to local, state and federal representatives.
Its responsibilities include:
Researching legislation and recommending district positions or actions
Examining state and federal aid formulas and developing equitable-funding strategies
Strengthening relationships with municipal leaders
Identifying opportunities to share assets and services or reduce costs
Educating residents about district priorities and ways to participate in advocacy
Identifying grant opportunities and assisting with applications
The committee expects to meet four or five times during the school year.
