BEDFORD HILLS, N.Y. - Bedford Hills firefighters used specialized equipment to free an injured motorist following a head-on collision on McLain Street on Monday, Oct. 12.
Emergency crews were dispatched to the area around 5:30 p.m. for a two-vehicle crash that left one person trapped inside a vehicle.
Responding agencies included the Bedford Hills Fire Department, Katonah-Bedford Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps and Westchester EMS.
Upon arrival, emergency personnel determined that one patient required extrication. However, rescue efforts were complicated by the close proximity of the two vehicles and a nearby rock wall that limited access.
Firefighters from Engine 199 and Rescue 10 used a winch and snatch block to move one of the vehicles away from the other, creating enough space for emergency personnel to safely reach the injured occupant.
Firefighters then assisted EMS crews in extricating the patient, who sustained minor injuries and was transported to a hospital for further evaluation.
Crews also contained fluid spills and assisted a tow truck operator with cleanup efforts at the scene.
No additional injuries were reported.
