NORTH SALEM, N.Y. - The alleged theft of a car in Greenwich led to the arrest of a Connecticut man in connection with a similar incident in North Salem early Sunday, Jan. 12, police said.

The suspect, who now faces several felony charges, was identified as 23-year-old Arquis Keyson Campbell of Bridgeport.

Two other suspects remain at large, according to town police Chief Tom Howley.

State police first spotted the stolen Connecticut vehicle going north on I-684.

They pursued it for a while before calling off the chase.

The driver got off the highway at the Goldens Bridge exit and proceeded north on Route 22 and then east on Route 116 (aka Titicus Road).

Having been notified, town police had an officer in an unmarked police car stationed in front of the former Swan Deli in Purdys, Howley said.

The officer followed the vehicle.

State police weren’t far behind as it, and local police, when the driver turned left onto Delancey Road.

Having seen a police car, with lights flashing, on Hardscrabble Road, the three suspects ditched the vehicle and ran off into the woods, Howley said.

Helping with search efforts were the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office and the Carmel police, which brought in their canines, and Westchester County Police, which deployed a helicopter.

Also involved was the Real Time Crime Unit (RTC), which serves as the county’s and regional law enforcement’s intelligence and information hub.

Local police stayed with the abandoned car in order to not only prevent it from being stolen again, but to preserve evidence, Howley said.

While everyone was looking for the three suspects, a call came in about a car being stolen on Lakeview Road, which is off Delancey.

The single suspect in that particular theft, who police ID’d as Campbell, didn’t get very far.

He crashed on a particularly tricky curve on Lakeview and was nabbed by state police around 1:15 a.m. Sunday.
Campbell was taken to the hospital. Details weren’t available at press time.

He has been charged with one count of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a Class D felony; one count of third-degree grand larceny, a Class D felony; and one count of fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a Class E felony.

Campbell also faces two Class A misdemeanor charges: resisting arrest and obstruction of governmental administration, according to the state police report.

The two other suspects are still being sought.
