Dear Editor,
Jann Mirchandani has always been a strong supporter of BSA Troop 165 of Yorktown Heights, the Scouts and their families, even long after her term as our Scoutmaster ended.
She goes above and beyond for them and is more than willing to help them in any way she can. She continues to be an integral, constant and unwavering part of their young lives and an advocate for them that we can count on now and always. For all this, we are forever grateful.
When Mrs. Mirchandani reached out to Mr. Brett Freeman to assist our son with his journalism merit badge, the response was immediate and enthusiastic. The CEO of Halston Media, publisher of Yorktown News, offered his time, his resources and his expertise to accommodate a young person trying to achieve a goal. This in and of itself is remarkable and we deeply thank him for all he has done.
Lastly, I thank Miranda Ferrante, a Yorktown News reporter who took the time to sit with our son so he could interview her for his merit badge. She patiently and with great knowledge explained to our son the process of writing an article for a news publication and what is involved with getting it to press. She also talked about the college selection process and gave great advice to him. She then in turn wrote a wonderful piece about our son and his Scouting journey.
We are so appreciative of the guidance, support and dedication to members of the community these individuals have shown. They set the example of what it means to help your neighbors with kindness and grace. These are the type of giving people I want my son to know exist in this world, so that he can strive to be like them as he approaches adulthood.
With sincere gratitude,
-Vanessa Hopkin-Kowatch, Yorktown
