2025 Donald R. Kellogg Memorial Scholarship winners announced

KATONAH, N.Y. - Two amazing young men were presented with the 2025 Donald R. Kellogg Memorial Scholarship on Sunday, June 15, 2025 at the Katonah-Purdys United Methodist Church in Katonah.  The scholarship is awarded each year in memory of Donald R. Kellogg, to honor his selfless service and commitment to our community.

Katonah-Purdys Church member Marc Milliot was awarded as a ‘quiet doer’ for his dedication to an important church mission, Katonah Appalachia Service Project.  He was nominated by Cory Casey, a Co-Leader of Katonah ASP.  Marc is preparing for his fourth week-long trip to Appalachia at the end of June.  He has held a leadership role in the organization for the past two years and is currently youth Vice President. Marc pledged 30% of his summer wages to be donated to Katonah ASP and not only followed through but encouraged other youth members to be enthusiastic about fundraising for this great cause. In September, Marc heads off to begin a new chapter at the Georgia Institute of Technology to major in Aerospace Engineering.

James McHugh, Jr. was nominated by Dean Pappas, Ex-Chief and President of the Katonah Fire Department. Dean shared that James is the embodiment of Donald R. Kellogg with his community volunteerism and service as a volunteer firefighter with the Katonah Fire Department. He is a Lieutenant who has taken on leadership responsibilities and is a mentor to other members. His hard work on any task that is asked of him along with being a self-starter has resulted in his own landscaping business and serving at St. Mary’s parish. James is currently in his second year at the University of Massachusetts – Amherst in the college’s Landscaping Contracting Program at the Stockbridge School of Agriculture.

Congratulations to Marc and James!
