Twenty food drives and counting for Sen. Harckham

Posted

Dear Editor,

When COVID-19 brought the world to a halt in the spring of 2020, Sen. Pete Harckham sprang into action.

Recognizing the needs of constituents and neighbors throughout New York's 40th State Senate District, Sen. Harckham, his staff, and countless volunteers, including students and teachers from many local school districts, began holding food drives to benefit food pantries.

The next food drive, Sen. Harckham's 20th, will take place at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Mohegan Lake from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28. Since March 2020, drives have been held in multiple locations including Sleepy Hollow, Ossining, Mohegan Lake, Bedford, Brewster, Croton-on-Hudson, Somers, Yorktown Heights, Katonah, as well as twice in Peekskill and three times each in Carmel and Mount Kisco. Sen. Harckham and volunteers have collected close to 57,000 pounds of food and other items and almost $15,000 in donations. So many of our neighbors have benefitted from this effort.

At a time when many choose to engage in partisan activities, Sen. Harckham leads the way helping neighbors put food on the table. As costs continue to rise, Sen. Harckham continually rises to the occasion, helping constituents in the 40th Senate District deal with real world challenges.

Maureen Warren, Somers
