SOMERS, N.Y. – The New York State Police from the Somers barracks announced yesterday that they had arrested a Somers man on Sept. 20 after he allegedly posed as an attorney in order to target victims who attended virtual substance abuse venues.
After their investigation, police charged David Karaca, age 56, of Somers, for falsely posing as an attorney on a Los Angeles-based virtual Alcoholics Anonymous group. He also allegedly defrauded a victim out of $7,500 for legal fees despite not being a lawyer. Police allege that he also uses the aliases of David Radcliffe and David Corazza.
Karaca was issued an appearance ticket to the town of Somers Court for Grand Larceny in the 3rd degree, a class D felony.
