SOMERS, N.Y. - Michael W. Driscoll Sr. has answered his final radio call.

The retired longtime Somers police chief died on Monday, July 21, at the age of 87.

A Mass of Christian Burial was conducted on Friday, Aug. 1, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church by the Rev. Fr. John M. Lagiovane.

Reading from the Old Testament was Driscoll’s son Eugene, and from the New Testament, was family member Maureen Mahon.

After services were concluded, Driscoll’s flag-draped casket was solemnly borne from the church by members of the New York City Police Department’s Color Guard and accompanied by the mournful strains of bagpipes.

An NYPD bugler played Taps. Lined up to salute their respected and loved former colleague were local police officers and firefighters, as well as Marines, and state troopers.

The folded flag was formally presented to Driscoll's family.

Members of the Westchester County Police motorcycle squad escorted the hearse under an enormous American flag which hung from the ladder of a Somers fire truck, through the town he had protected for three-plus decades, and to St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Driscoll's final resting place.

Taps and the bagpipes were played again, prayers were said, comfort shared, and red and white roses placed lovingly on his coffin.
