SOMERS, N.Y. - Somers residents will have no shortage of ways to celebrate, learn, and give back during Earth Week 2026, with a packed schedule of activities running from April 18 - 26.
Saturday, April 18
E-Waste Recycling Day will be held at Somers Intermediate School (240 Route 202) from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., presented by the SIS PTA. All electronics and scrap metal accepted. Clean out your space, recycle responsibly and make an impact!
Sunday, April 19
"Leave No Trace and 10 Essentials for Hiking Safety" for hikers and walkers of Heritage Hills with Kristie Ripepi will meet at the Heritage Hills Activities Center (8 Heritage Hills Drive) at 9:15 a.m. to go to Rhinoceros Creek Reservation. Bring water, snacks, and hiking poles if you have them. Dogs are not allowed. Steady rain will cancel the hike. For Heritage Hills residents only.
The Somers Energy and Environment Committee will host the Repair Cafe in the program room at Somers Library from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Bring one or two items for free repair by talented volunteers, including lamps, jewelry, journals, embroidery, sewing, crocheting needs, or knife sharpening while you wait. Save your money, keep your stuff out of the landfill, and meet your neighbors!

"The Path to Clean Energy in the Hudson Valley" with Jeff Seidman will be held in the Program Room at Somers Library at 7 p.m. Learn how we can clean our air and lower our bills – if our leaders make smart policy decisions. To make good decisions, we need to understand the way that renewable power sources like solar and wind can work together with batteries as a system.
Wednesday, April 22
"Coyote Coexistence Program" with Dana Goin will be held in the Program Room at Somers Library at 7 p.m. Learn about eastern coyotes, their history and ecology, and what we can do to best coexist with them.
Thursday, April 23
"Soft Landings: Playtime for Littles" at Lasdon Public Gardens (2610 Route 35, Katonah) from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Gather together to enjoy early growth in the gardens, record stories in a journal, and learn about tools. You will experiment with seeds and roots, build with sticks, stems, rocks and blocks, and exercise your imagination, ending with gratitude for forest friends and a cup of warm tea. Dress for the weather. $5.

Friday, April 24
"Find the Birds of Spring in Somers!" with Anne Swain at Angle Fly Preserve (55 Route 139) at 7:30 a.m. Explore the sights, sounds, and habitats of local songbirds via images, sounds and video with Q&A to follow.
Celebrate Arbor Day at Bailey Park (335 Route 202) at 10 a.m. The tradition continues with another redbud being planted along the horse trough.
Saturday, April 25
"Medication Take Back" at the Somers Police Station (100 Route 139) from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Get rid of old and unused medication, syringes and vapes. Bring a food item for St. Luke’s Food Pantry.

"Return of the Fisher Study" with Pace University Professor Mike Rubbo at the Somers Town House (335 Route 202) at 2 p.m. Since 2015, Pace University has been searching for the fisher. A few observations in 2010 spurred the creation of a research study which was repeated in 2021 and 2026 which will be the highlight of the presentation.
"Medicinal Plant & Tree Tour" at Lasdon Public Gardens (2610 Route 35, Katonah) from 10 to 11 a.m. Over 20 plants and trees that have medicinal qualities will be examined.
Sunday, April 26
"Town of Somers Earth Day 2026: What Can We Do?" in the Program Room at Somers Library at 11:30 a.m. Topics include rain gardens, septic and sewer system do’s and don’ts, composting, waste reduction, and recycling.
"Wildflower Walk" at Muscoot Farm (51 Route 100, Katonah) from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Learn about their incredible wildlife species from identification to ecology to traditional uses.
Somers Food Scrap Recycling Program
To be held at Somers Highway Department (250 Route 100) from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. – 7 days a week. All food scraps are accepted!
