SOMERS, N.Y. - Somers boys volleyball has entered its third season with Marissa Tambini and Katie DiChiaro stepping in as co-coaches.
“I’m super excited to come here and work with these guys,” said Tambini.
Tambini, the former Brewster girls volleyball coach, will rely on Max Weinfeld to quarterback the offense from the middle. “He has a good rhythm with his hitters,” she said.
Also in the middle is Jordan Daniyan, while Ryan Ball returns as one of the team’s outside hitters. “I’m looking forward to showing them some new plays and some new tricks on the net,” said Tambini.
Both will be key at the net on blocks, but the backline defense remains unsettled. “They didn’t have a libero last year,” Tambini noted.
Still, she sees plenty of promise. “The hustle from everyone is incredible,” she said.
With boys volleyball still a relatively new sport at the high school level, Tambini embraces her role as both coach and teacher. “I like it because I feel I have a lot to offer,” she said.
And the results, she added, are already showing. “They are picking up everything we are throwing at them.”
By her side, DiChiaro is equally eager to help the program grow. “The sport is growing and I’m pumped to be here,” DiChiaro concluded.
