Somers students raise funds for childhood cancer research

SOMERS, N.Y. - Rising second graders Asher Hinz and Ava Cheysvin, students at Primrose Elementary School, hosted their first lemonade stand on July 26 at the Lake Lincolndale Clubhouse, raising $410 for the Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation.

The pair, who were first-grade classmates in Mrs. Galli's class, were inspired after Asher participated in the Somers Parks and Recreation Department's Spark Academy "My First Lemonade Stand" after-school program.

Together, they planned the event from start to finish, creating their own signs, squeezing fresh lemons and partnering with the Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, which raises money to help find cures for childhood cancer.
