Protect yourself while shoveling the BIG snow!

Posted

Shoveling snow is hard work and there are a few things you can do to protect yourself from injuries and other more serious outcomes.

       1. Shoveling is a cold activity. Be sure to warm up your spine by stretching first.

       2. Bend your knees and keep your back straight.

       3. Keep your feet apart and take a low stance.\

       4. Scoop and lift upwards with your legs and not your back.

       5. Don’t shovel more than you can handle. Keep your shovel light and don’t overload it.

       6. Keep your shovel close to your body so it’s easier to lift.

       7. Point your feet in the direction you want to throw the snow. Don’t twist your spine.

       8. Push the snow forward if possible and don’t throw it to the side.

       9. Take frequent breaks. It doesn’t all have to be done at once. Don’t overdo it.

Following these simple rules can help protect you in your snow removal efforts. Work smart and stay safe.
