SOMERS, N.Y. - Muscoot Farm is turning the alphabet into an adventure with its newest gallery exhibit, “The ABCs of Muscoot Farm.”
Celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, the 777-acre county-owned interpretative farm is offering the imaginative showcase as a way of bringing to life its history, humans, animals, and stories.
An opening reception for the exhibit will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 5. It is being sponsored by Friends of Muscoot Farm.
Starting on Saturday, Sept. 13, the exhibit will be on display in the Main House from 12 noon to 4 p.m. on weekends throughout the month.
“Muscoot Farm has been one of Westchester’s most cherished landmarks for the past 50 years, and this exhibit showcases why,” said County Executive Ken Jenkins.
“The ABCs of Muscoot Farm’ captures the spirit of the farm in a way that’s educational and inspiring. It reminds us of the vital role Muscoot plays in connecting our community to history, agriculture and the natural world,” he added.
Kathy O’Connor had a good pun to add to the accolades.
“This exhibition spells out why so many people from Westchester and beyond visit Muscoot so often,” said the commissioners of the county’s Department of Parks, Recreation, and Conservation.
The fun continues at Muscoot on Saturday, Sept. 13, and Sunday, Sept. 14, with a two-day festival.
Highlights include hayrides, beekeeping demos, spinning, and knitting demonstrations, tales from master storyteller Jonathan Kruk, and much more.
There will also be an exotic animal presentation, cookie painting, a bird walk with Anne Swaim, executive director of Saw Mill River Audubon, blacksmithing demonstrations, falconry with James Eyring, and live music.
The weekly farmers market will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 14.
As usual, Muscoot’s barnyard animals will be on hand for all to visit.
